Vocations Blog
This month, our Sisters and a group of discerners came together in a Zoom discernment retreat.
It drew a good-sized group of women who wanted to learn more about life as a Dominican Sister of Peace.
In today's blog, Vocation Director Sr. June Fitzgerald asks...Now What? It is found here.

Celebrating "a bit" early in New Orleans
Mardi Gras day is about two weeks away, so that means it is time to start the party!
The Peace Center brought the Senior adults together Wednesday for a wonderful meal, prepared by Associate Madeline Curtis along with some delicious King Cakes.
Those gathered chose the Peace Center’s King and Queen and their court for 2025 then waved white handkerchiefs in the spirit of the day.
*Mardi Gras is a season that begins January 6 and ends on the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday...so as they say in New Orleans: Laissez lez bon temps roulez! Please see some of the fun by clicking here.

Kicking off Heartland's 40th
Last Sunday, the Heartland Spirituality Center's Chapel was filled with prayer and beautiful song.
Bishop John B. Brungardt provided a blessing for the Center and accomplished mezzo-soprano Hayley Shoemaker entertained those gathered with some beautiful selections on a cold February day.
The group congregated afterwards to hear a little bit about the importance of the center, known as a retreat and conference center for people of all faiths. Please see a few photos from the day here.

Black History Honored at Columbus Motherhouse
Black History Month was the reason for the lunch time celebration Friday that included quite a few black-culture-inspired delicacies on the table.
Voices were lifted in song for the National Black Anthem, "Lift Every Voice & Sing", while remembering and learning about some of the great contributions of black men and women.
The afternoon included an opening prayer from Sr. Pat Dual, a little history about Black History from staff member Sharon Mahlungulu-Umoja and a Black History Jeopardy game from Gaye Reissland. Please see these pictures here from both an important and fun gathering that drew a crowd!

Prayer Requests

  • Sister Ellen Coates (New Haven, CT, ellen.coates@oppeace.org) requests prayers for Associate Joan Scanlon (Southington, CT, joanscan@yahoo.com) and her family as they mourn the death of Joan’s sister, Barbara Rossi.  Barbara passed away at home, surrounded by family, on Wednesday, February 19, 2025.
  • Staff member Crystal Henderson (Columbus, OH, crystal.henderson@oppeace.org) requests prayer for her family. She lost another first cousin this past Tuesday morning. The death was unexpected and the family's hearts are heavy. Crystal was very close to her 58 year old cousin who leaves behind a spouse, both of her parents and a brother.

Updates/Notes of Gratitude
Associate Joe Perez (Garden City, KS, joevp777@gmail.com) expresses his thanks to Dominican Sisters and Associates, who prayed for his relatives who underwent recent heart surgeries. Both operations were successful, with his Aunt Ruby sent to rehab for a few weeks and his Aunt Elva sent back to her home to recuperate. Additional thanks from Joe for prayer for Nat and Nat's son, Caughty. Both passed away recently.
