Scam Warning from Keytel
The Security team at Keytel says that there has been an increase in the number of fake text messages targeting both individuals and organizations. Many Sisters and associates have also seen these and reached out to the Help Desk.
These texts look very legitimate, but their goal is really to get you to click on a link and give your personal information away.
Here are a few tips to help you avoid a scam in your text message box:
1) Verify the Source: Check if the text is from someone you know. When in doubt, contact the sender directly using a verified phone number or email address.
2) Avoid Clicking on Links: Do not click on links or download attachments from unknown or suspicious sources.
3) Look for Red Flags: Be cautious of texts with urgent requests, unexpected prize winnings, or requiring personal information.
4) Enable Security Features: Ensure your devices have the latest security updates and antivirus software installed. If you are not sure if your phone is up to date, please contact Sr. Barb Lolli (w) 614-416-1034.
Contact Us: If you receive a suspicious text claiming to be from Keytel or the Help Desk, please reach out to Keytel directly at 614-328-0555 or 617-695-9800.
On a very specific note, a Sister reached out today to report a text that purported to be information on tracking a package. This is a very popular new scam … but definitely a scam! UPS, Fed X and USPS won’t text you about package tracking unless you set up a specific account.
Thank you for your vigilance in helping to keep our systems safe!
