Noteworthy Appointments
Fr. Simon Peter Engurait
was among Pope Leo’s first batch of episcopal appointments.
Currently the vicar general for Houma-Thibodaux, located an hour south of New Orleans, he will be the very first African-born bishop to head a US diocese.
Sisters from the Eucharistic Missionaries of St. Dominic served in this bayou region for many decades, and the diocese is still home for several Associates and graduates of the Archdiocesan Spirituality Center’s internship for directors.
To discover why someone was judged ready to be a bishop only 12 years after priestly ordination, read about him here and watch a video about him from Uganda Catholics Online here.
