The congregation’s day-long study of Land Justice Futures will be held on Saturday, November 23.

You can begin logging into Zoom as early as 8:15 am EST, giving you time to enter the call, test your setup, and work through any issues that you may find. At 9 am EST, we will offer music and video to help you center yourself for the information and discussion to come.

The presentation will begin at 9:30 am EST. This is a two-way zoom conversation, so please be sure to mute yourself until the periods of the program where you are invited to participate.

There will be a 15-minute break around 10:45 am EST, a 75-minute lunch break at 12:15 pm EST, and a second 15-minute break around 3:15 pm EST.

The program will end at 4:00 EST.

Please click here to join the webcast. The program will be available on ZOOM only.

The recent Great Bend Raffle is now history and prizes are being distributed. Proceeds were listed at around $42,000 (with a few expenses still to cover) and there were winners in seven states. Please click here to see the list of the lucky winners. Sisters in Great Bend are grateful for those cash winners who donated their prizes back to the Congregation. Thank you to all who made this raffle such a great success!

Liturgy for the Deceased in Memphis
On November 9, 28 Memphis Dominican Associates and Sisters gathered at Stritch Chapel to remember in prayer our deceased Sisters, Associates and loved ones who have passed this past year.

Following the Opening Song, Prayers, and Readings, Sr. Cathy Galaskiewicz preached on Wisdom 3 and John 6:37-40.  Scripture reminds us that: “The souls of the just are in the hands of God. They are in peace—for they shall abide with God in love. They are alive, for it is God’s will that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have eternal life.”

Those gathered at the Christian Brothers University church shared intercessions and chanted the Litany of the Saints.  Following the solemn ringing of chimes, and remembering the Sisters and Associates by name, those gathered shared memories of those who have passed.  Please click here to see the prayer table that displayed pictures of those who have died.

Peace and Justice Action Items
This lame duck session of Congress will be our best chance to pass the Frederick Douglass Trafficking Victims Prevention and Protection Reauthorization Act (FD TVPRA), H.R. 5856. This anti-trafficking legislation would:

  • Reauthorize domestic and international provisions of the TVPRA
  • Support survivors of trafficking
  • Provide for wrap-around social services and education to prevent child trafficking

Please take a few moments to help get this bill over the line by contacting your senators. With your action, we can push H.R. 5856 forward, strengthening protections and providing resources to end human trafficking. Click here to contact your senator.

Events
Prepare to be Hungry!
The Great Bend Motherhouse celebrated a "Pie Fest" recently, a day to enjoy great pies and also a remembrance of the Annual Bazaar that ended during Covid. Homemade pie was one of the highlights of that bazaar.
This year, Sisters Ann Metzen, Francine Schwartzenberger, Charlotte Brungardt, Eloise Hertel, Rebecca Otter, Imelda Schmidt, Marie Hageman, Barb Kane, and Heartland Center Co Director Ann Axman baked the mouth-watering desserts.
The pies were sold to Sisters and staff to raise money for the missions and a little more than $400 was collected. Please click here to see the wonderful creations.

Updates/Notes of Gratitude

  • Associate Janet Pohlmeier (St. Catharine, KY, pohlmeierjanet@gmail.com) offers thanks for prayer for her sister Mary Elzy of Austin, Texas. Her brain tumor has been removed and she shows us a hopeful spirit.
  • Sr. Theresa Fox (St. Catharine, KY, theresa.fox@oppeace.org) is thankful for the prayer and messages at the time of her brother Bob’s death, saying it was good to be with him as he went to God. Sr. Theresa stayed with his wife Loretta for a few weeks and was able to be of help to her.
