A Milestone Birthday
On November 17, Sr. Marina Gibbons celebrated her 100th birthday. Her celebration was held on November 20 at Sansbury Care Center. Friends and family traveled from far and near to be with her for this special occasion. Everyone enjoyed the delicious cake and punch prepared by Peggy Switser, Food Service Manager. Time was spent sharing wonderful stories about their time spent with Sister over the years. Congratulations, Sr. Marina! Click here for pictures of her special day.
Sr. Susan Olson Serves as National Speaker
Sr. Susan Olson, New Haven, CT, will present a national talk on Vocal Pedagogy for the Aging Voice to the organization of National Pastoral Musicians. We are blessed by her knowledge and talent.
Thanksgiving Holiday
Our Congregational Staff will be celebrating Thanksgiving with their families on Thursday, November 28, and Friday, November 29. There will be no OPPeace News on November 29. The OPPeace News will resume on Monday, December 2.

Our Lady of the Elms School Marks Sponsorship Transfer
On Monday, November 26, Our Lady of the Elms School hosted a special ritual commemorating the transfer of sponsorship of the school from the Dominican Sisters of Peace to Dominican Veritas Ministries. The ceremony beautifully celebrated the legacy of the school’s foundation and this bold new moment that will help the school faithfully carry its Dominican heritage into the future. Upcoming events at the Albertus Magnus Eckhart Center
On Tuesday, December 3, 5:30-6:45 pm EST, the Center will host an interfaith dinner panel about Teaching as a Spiritual Practice featuring education leaders Valerie Mara, Rev. Dr. Daniel Heischman, and Salman Hamid. Although our guests will focus on K-12 education in particular, their insights will be helpful for those who teach at the college level and in other settings as well. On Tuesday, January 14, 2025, 6:30-7:45pm EST, theological scholar Adam Beyt will speak on the Dominican understanding of the connection between contemplation and action in a lecture entitled Weaving the Cross Thread of Dominican Spirituality: A Mystical-Political Inheritance. A Death in our Family
Anna Louise Morris Walker, formerly Sister Rose Nicholas of St. Catharine, KY, passed away on Sunday, November 24, 2024. She was a devout Catholic and former Dominican Sister who taught school for many years. Please read her complete obituary here.
Sr. Mary Michaeline Green has asked that we share funeral details for her sister, Carol Ann Boudreaux. The visitation and Funeral Mass will be on Friday, Nov. 29, at St. Philip Neri Church in Metairie. The visitation will be at 10:30, followed by Mass at Noon. Click here to read the obituary.
Prayer Requests
- Sister Charlotte Brungardt (Great Bend, KS, charlotte.brungardt@oppeace.org) requests prayer for successful hip replacement surgery scheduled for Dec. 4. She will spend her rehab time at the Great Bend motherhouse infirmary.
