Peace & Justice Update
Peace and Justice Action Item
There is a lot of confusion and misleading information regarding immigration in the United States these days. News and social media continue to amplify outright lies and cherry-picked facts about what has happened in recent years.

One way to educate our communities and encourage positive, productive conversation is to write a letter to the editor of your local media. It’s an effective way to address the general public and share accurate facts to support further engagement.

Immigrants are real people in vulnerable situations who are harmed by rhetoric and the policy it will create. We are called to use our platform as advocates to respond to the cry of the poor.

The Sisters of Mercy offer these tips to help you craft your 200–250-word letter to the editor.

Our Lady of the Elms School Welcomes the New Year

Our Lady of the Elms students kicked off the school year with a "Mass on the Grass." It was a wonderful day to celebrate the Holy Spirit as well as the Blessed Mother's birthday. The students heard the beautiful story of the Blessed Mother's life from Her birth to Her Ascension from Father Tom Haren. The band and the choir made joyful sounds and all enjoyed a picnic lunch and games afterward. The group sends thanks to the Dominican Sisters of Peace for the use of the Motherhouse lawn for the Mass and celebration.  Please click here for some photos of the day.

St. Agnes-St. Dominic Campus Remembers 9/11
The St. Agnes-St. Dominic school family spent time in reflection this week in remembrance of everyone impacted by the events of 9/11/01. They also took the time to show their gratitude to first responders who continue to protect our communities. As part of this occasion, the group continued a tradition of collecting snacks and delivering baskets of treats to police and fire stations. Please click here to see some photos.

Death of a Sister

We prayerfully remember Sister Ann Dominic Roach who passed on September 8. She served for many years as an educator and is remembered for her ministry as the first female superintendent of Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Boston. Please read more about her life by clicking here

We also keep Sister Mary Ruth Angelette in prayer. She passed away September 9 in Metairie, LA.  She was a native of New Orleans and also an educator. Part of her ministry included time as the founding principal at St. Clare School in Waveland. We are grateful for her years of dedication as a Dominican Sister of Peace.  Please read more about her life by clicking here.
