International Day of Peace
The International Day of Peace, September 21, was observed in a variety of ways. At noon in Great Bend, our Sisters were asked to observe a time of silence to pray for peace and also concentrate on their favorite peace quotations.

The Sunday Liturgy was celebrated on Saturday afternoon with peace as the theme in music and intercessions.  Those attending were invited to write on a piece of rice paper an intention for a peaceful resolution.  After the Creed, the intentions were carried to the altar and dropped into a bowl of water where the paper dissolved, symbolizing the peaceful resolution of the needs for which the Sisters prayed. Also posted outside the chapel was a display of the flags of the world. After Mass, participants were given the names of several countries with the request: "Pray for peace." See a few photos from the day by clicking here.

Interfaith Celebration in Columbus
Columbus' First Congressional Church was the setting for faith leaders, including Sr. Roberta Miller, OP,  Associate Rev. Tim Ahrens, and others to unite this past weekend. Praying for peace was the theme of the day. Please read about it here in this blog.

Peace Center Celebrates during "Fiery Fridays"
Volunteers from Xavier University are giving their time to Peace Center after-school kids during "Fiery Fridays." It's a time when students enjoy snacks and share conversations with visitors. (As many know, creating traditions is very Dominican, and “Fiery Fridays” are the newest tradition!) Everyone relaxes while spicy hot chips and cold drinks are passed around. There is also time to play outside, try some dance moves, or play a few games on the computer.

The Peace Center celebrates ten years in the neighborhood with a party on Saturday, September 28. Please pray for the guests and good weather. You can check out "Fiery Fridays" by clicking here.
